As 2020 drew to an end I was invited again by FameLab and friends from Bulgaria to give my biased opinion about what is the most important scientific discovery in said cursed year. I did this together with several other FameLab finalists and the whole thing even aired on national TV, in the evening news segment. I argued that the most important discovery is AlphaFold 2, an AI system that predicts the 3D structure of proteins based on knowledge only about their linear content. I might do in-depth dive into it later.
